‘I can tell that we are gonna be friends’

Whenever this time of year rolls around, it always feels like it’s time for a fresh start for me, even if I haven’t actually gone back to school in (heh hem) years. It’s still a nice time to buy a few new outfits, refresh the supplies at home and at the shop, and to try to meet a few new people.

One person that I know you will adore meeting is our newest cheesemonger, Anne. Her love of food and people made me feel an almost instant connection with her, and I know you will too - and she’s knowledgeable, warm, and hilarious to boot.

Anne being in the shop recently opened my eyes around a problem I was having. Michael is headed into second grade soon and for a moment, I wanted him to have a different teacher (for various reasons, that aren’t so important to get into here). But then I saw how many of his friends are in his class and I decided, well remembered, what I know is true: friends, and the people we decide to spend our time with, are the most important thing. Period.

Anne, and the vast majority of our customers fill my days with joy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know that Michael’s friends also give him so much more than friendship. They give him joy, yes, but also confidence, compassion, empathy, and all the skills that make him a good human, not just an educated person.

Y’all do that for me too.

Thanks again for all you do for our family, in so many ways you’ll never know.

”Happy new year” and say hi to Anne when you see her!

xoxo,

Scott
