How it all came to be . . .
We are only on this cheesy journey because of YOU, and we cannot thank you enough for your support of our company and our family. Today we wanted to share the story of how Scott & Joe came to be.
We are food-obsessed. We are Nyack-obsessed. We are experience-obsessed.
We have a fundamental belief that food makes all of us better people.
Joe grew up in Detroit and Scott grew up in Salt Lake City - and yes, there are some real good back stories about growing up in places like those that we can get into another time.
We came together in Philadelphia at the right bold age of 23 and found ourselves spending weekends in the Italian Market in South Philly wandering, smelling, and tasting and then buying, cooking, and eating – it was pretty damn magical.
The obsession has continued throughout our lives exploring markets the word over in Madrid, Lyon, Napa, Paris, Rome, Melbourne, Havana, St. Petersburg, and San Francisco – all of these opened our eyes to the world of possibility around ingredients. What surprised us most though wasn’t some exotic spice or super stinky cheese, it was the feeling we got in those markets – there is an immediate sense of community, belonging, and love, because food people are also people people.
We are in the food business because we want to make people feel excited about what’s about to happen to them when they taste that morsel. The taste might take them back to a particular moment, ingredient, or scent – or they might get that rush of adrenaline one feels the first time they are experiencing a new taste or combination of flavors.
Whatever it is, we know that it can be an exceptional moment in their day or even their life. In our shop, those experiences happen over and over again.
